Support local agriculture

You can show your love by supporting the Rio Grande Farmers Coalition in raising $8000 to grow our movement.The Rio Grande Farmers Coalition aims to grow more local food and build resilience in our foodshed. We organize and connect growers and food activists, in order to forge a collective voice that represents the needs of producers, cooks, eaters, communities and ecosystems. We are also the local chapter of the National Young Farmer’s Coalition. The RGFC brings farmers together to share skills, build community, and define needs. From the farmers market to the senate, farmers are a critical voice for healthy food and healthy land.RGFC creates a space for local growers to take ownership of the solutions we need to support ourselves and our families while providing nutritious, locally grown food to our communities. We want to ensure ALL farming voices in our community are welcomed and supported in our local chapter.Right now, we need your support to help us build on last years’ successes.In 2016 we…

  • Reached out to hundreds of new and aspiring farmers through networking events;
  • Trained farmers to be community leaders and engaged the legislature in a discussion about the needs of young farmers in our state;
  • Facilitated a Water Boot Camp where local farmers learned about the laws, culture, and use of water in New Mexico;
  • Hosted two agricultural career fairs for aspiring farmers to find mentorship and training opportunities;
  • Shared skills through a series of practical, on-farm workshops for farmers by farmers;
  • Brought together a volunteer board of directors to guide these efforts.

In 2017, our fundraising goal of $8,000 will…

  • Increase membership by directly reaching out to local farmers and other champions of local food;
  • Create practical, farmer-driven solutions, such as a Tool Sharing Library, an on-farm irrigation planning workshop, a planning and planting workshop, and a hands-on grant writing tutoring session;
  • Provide opportunities for farmers to meet and share knowledge;
  • Train farmers to advocate for good food and healthy land from the farmers market to the Farm Bill.
